On the left you see the model as it was made
throughout Holland in the beginning of the twentieth
century. This was the basic model until 1940. That was the
period when the miscellaneous wooden shoe makers started to
distinguish themselves in order to secure their market share
some more.
As more wooden shoe makers came into competition, a number of
them moved to provinces where there still some market share was
left. Around 1960 there was a nation wide coverage with
wooden shoe makers who all also had their own model. That is
how every area got its own model.
On the map below several cities are indicated. Click on
each city to see what model was worn.
These wooden shoes were made between 1986 and 1989. Some of
them have been created based on old photographs, because
they were very difficult to find or already not around
anymore.
